Important Information from Last Night’s Neighborhood Watch Meeting

How to Report Crime

Thank you to all our residents who attended the meeting with the City of Aurora yesterday. We appreciate Jennifer Dubrow taking the time to meet with our neighbors and we learned a lot about the neighborhood watch program. For those unable to attend we gathered a few of the highlights to share with the community.

  • Residents can access and view reported crimes around Aurora on the website:  www.communitycrimemap.com  This website is updated every 72 hours with information from the Aurora Officers. You can also reference an incident number and ask questions to our Par Officer regarding any local crimes.

  • It is important to report any criminal activity even if you don’t have any information regarding a suspect.

  • You can report criminal activity by calling 911 if it is an active crime or emergency. Even if it is not active they will get you to the right department but you might have to hold.  Or you can call the nonemergency Aurora Police number at 303-627-3100. You can also file a police report online.

  • You can also text 911 to report criminal activity.

  • Never confront a suspect, it is always better to call in and report a crime.

  • Our PAR Officer is Officer Judy Lutkin, Area 26 PAR,

Her contact information is 303-637-3177, [email protected]

Hours are: Tues – Friday, 6:30 am – 4:30 pm.

The primary activities of the PAR officer are problem solving, education and prevention.

Each officer works closely with residents and businesses in their area.

  • Neighborhood Watch has a Facebook Page and you are encouraged to join and post information there. This does not replace a police report so you still want to file a report but it can be helpful to have neighbors look out for each other.
  • The link to the page is:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/284873042119693

  • For information on the Traffic Calming program you can reach directly out to Carlie Campuzano at [email protected] or at 303-739-7309

Top Crimes and Prevention:

  • Top 3 crimes right now in SE Aurora are Catalytic Converter Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft and Theft from a Motor Vehicle.

  • To prevent theft from your vehicle make sure your car is locked and you don’t leave anything in the car. The recommendation was made to have a bag that you carry in and out each night so you don’t have valuables in your car.

  • Get to know your neighbors and look out for each other. If you see someone crawling under a car or acting suspicious, report it.

  • Your registration comes with 2 parts, one has your address the other does not. Leave the part with your address at home and put the non-address version in your car.

  • Make sure to close your garage doors even during the day.  It is easy for thieves to walk by and take things out of an open garage if no one is around. You do not want to be a victim of a crime of opportunity.

  • The Wheatland Metro District has put up 8 new neighborhood watch signs in our community. We also have been given neighborhood watch stickers you can place on your front doors and windows. If you would like one reach out to [email protected]. We also plan on inviting our PAR officer to our future neighborhood events and can bring neighborhood watch stickers to those events as well.

  • It takes a village and we appreciate each of you helping to keep our neighborhood safe. If anyone is interested in joining the neighborhood watch you can reach out to Jennifer Dubrow at 720-771-7848 or [email protected]

Some of our neighborhood concerns can be addressed by the city of Aurora. “Access Aurora” is a convenient way to contact the city about any non-emergency questions or comments. You can submit a question or a violation, and it will be directed to the proper department such as parking, weeds, traffic, animals, etc. It is all anonymous and many residents have been surprised by the promptness of the response.
