Community Update
Landscape Maintenance
We have been partnering with our landscape architect to come up with solutions for the water drainage issues at the park. The board voted to move forward with getting a water wise rebate with the city of Aurora by converting the unused grass to native. The soccer field turf will remain the same. Once we get approval from the city, Cox plans to work on replacing the blue grass with native in the fall/early winter. This will also significantly help with the water runoff at the park and will save money every year by lowering our water bill.
Wheatlands Board Meetings Moving Online
The Wheatlands board voted to change our meetings from in-person monthly to in-person quarterly. We will still meet monthly, but will move the meetings to online only. This will save our district the costs incurred by our contractors to drive to attend our meeting each month. It will also help with childcare for our board members to be able to join online. We encourage residents to join us online, and the meeting schedule has been posted on our website.
The schedule is as follows:
- July – Online Only
- August – In person and Online (at the Aurora YMCA Conference Room)
- September – Online Only
- October – Online Only
- November – In person and Online
- December – Online Only
Motorized Vehicles at the Park
Please help us keep our park nice and report any motorized bikes to the police immediately if they are riding in Wheatlands Park. They are causing property damage and when we reached out to the PAR Officer, they said the best way is to report them while it is happening. You can call 911 as it is a crime currently taking place. We have installed signs at the park to make sure the rules are clearly seen. We appreciate the community’s help in reporting this issue and helping us stop the damage to our park. The non-emergency number for the Aurora Police is 303-627-3100.

Design Review Process
Are you planning on making some home improvements or updates to your landscaping? Or are you someone who needs to repaint or replace your roof?
As some of us have experienced, if we wait too long it can be hard to find a painter, landscaper or construction firm that isn’t already booked out for months. Now is the perfect time to plan the work you want to do on your home or yard and meet with contractors. Once your plans are finalized and you have a time frame for the work, submitting your application and supporting documents to the Design Review Committee is the next step.
Follow these few simple steps:

PLEASE NOTE: It is the Owners obligation to check with the Town/County/City and obtain a building permit if it is required for the improvement. Landscaping Tips and Tricks

Irrigation
Avoid irrigating during the daylight. Water will evaporate slower if applied under the cover of darkness.
Mowing
As the temperatures get hot, mow your grass a bit longer to create more shade. Cut around 3.5″.
Fireworks
Please be careful with your firework celebrations. Errant explosives can quickly cause fires. Keep water at the ready to douse the spent ones.
Weed Control
The hotter it gets, the more they grow. Stay vigilant.
FUN FACT FOR JULY – DID YOU KNOW? The vernal equinox (in late June) is the longest day of the year for us here in the northern hemisphere. Despite the days getting continually shorter, temperatures will continue to rise as the “dog days” of summer linger with increased exposure to the sun due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis.
