Board of Directors
Sameer Bhatnagar – President, Term to May 2027

We moved to Colorado in early 2014 from Dallas, Texas. After a short stay in Fort Collins, we moved to Wheatlands in summer of 2016. My wife and I have two daughters and two dogs. I frequently go hiking with my friends, and family, enjoy taking walks at Aurora Reservoir. After serving on the boards of our old neighborhood as a board member and as President, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I needed to become involved on the board here.
I am very passionate about helping our community grow and bring our diverse community together. I hope to see and meet everyone around the neighborhood.
Kathy Barela – Vice President / Treasurer, Term to May 2029

I moved to Wheatlands in 2013 and love our neighborhood! With 3 young kids, I am proud to have helped lead the community park project. It is a wonderful place to gather as a community and for the kids to play on the new playground. I have also volunteered countless hours to make our brand new recreation center a reality. It is so fun to see neighbors enjoying the programming at the new YMCA and having a place to swim in the winter! It is truly a joy serving our community and being able to transform the communities vision into a reality. Furthermore, I enjoy helping with the community communication and work hard to keep our website updated and the neighborhood informed. I grew up in Colorado and take delight in skiing and snowboarding. I enjoy fishing and camping during the summer; and cheering on the Broncos in the fall. I hope to see you around the neighborhood!
Brooke Holliman – Secretary, Term to May 2029

Four years ago, my husband and I discovered the Wheatlands and instantly knew we wanted to be a part of the community. It’s a pleasure raising our young daughter in a neighborhood that has so much to offer.
I’m an avid traveler and love immersing myself in new cultures. In my free time, I enjoy snowboarding, camping, and quilting. I look forward to helping with community projects and representing my neighbors in board decisions.
Rodney DeWalt – Assistant Secretary, Term to May 2027

After spending many years in Wisconsin, my wife and I moved to Thornton, Colorado in 2007. In 2015, we were blessed to become a part of the Wheatlands community. My wife, dog (Bear) and I are appreciative of the community’s beauty and diversity. It has been said that “You won’t understand the unabashed power of a community until you are a part of one” and I remain excited to be a part of this one. I look forward to meeting more people in the community and to being of service. As for my personal interest, I enjoy playing golf, watching all sports, and walking Bear.
Christopher Baston – Assistant Treasurer, Term to May 2027

We moved to Colorado in 2017 from Las Vegas, Nevada, and were fortunate to settle in the Wheatlands neighborhood while I was still on active duty. After four years here, we decided to leave active-duty military service and call Colorado our permanent home. My wife, our daughters, and I love getting outside and exploring everything Colorado has to offer.
A lifetime of military service inspired me to get involved on the board. I’m focused on practical improvements that help young families—and our community as a whole—get outdoors and enjoy our local area. If you see me out walking our Great Pyrenees, Tony, feel free to flag me down and say hello!
