Community Event Recap
The lightning came about 45 minutes before the Pizza Party was supposed to start and many residents left the pool area. But, the clouds parted and the sun came back out and residents returned to the pool and got to enjoy lots of pizza, ice-cream and drinks for free!! Staff purchased 45 pizzas, over 300 cold drinks and ice-cream. Many families got to take home a whole pizza at the end of the night. Even though the weather didn’t fully cooperate, those who attended had a great time and left with a full belly. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures while everyone was there! But, we had a line out the door!.
So much fun was had at the July 4th celebration! We had over 500 rsvp for this event and probably more that attended!
It was so great to see so many neighbors and friends come out for this wonderful celebration! We had a bike parade with an amazing yellow firetruck, thanks to Jen Cronk and 1320 Homes. We also had exotic animals, a barrel train, two face painters, a bounce house, 2 kegs, a margarita machine, drinks for the kids, and food trucks. There were also pool games played on safety breaks and the event finished off with a water balloon fight!

Thank you to all that participated and to the YMCA staff who worked so hard to make this such a fun event. And thank you to those who helped clean up all the balloon scraps after the water balloon fight. From all the smiling faces of all age groups, it looked like everyone really had a great time.
Thank you to all those that came out for the concert night. We appreciate your flexibility in the change of venue. We had some logistically challenges trying to get the large stage that the band brought in the grassy area of the park safely, so we had to change the location.
We had a huge turn out. Everyone brought their chairs and blankets. Some even brought their own picnics and many enjoyed the delicious food trucks. Their was lots of talking, laughing, listening to the music.

About 30 minutes into the concert, the weather decided not to cooperate and to rain on us. After a 20 minutes rain break, the clouds parted, the sun returned and even a rainbow presented itself. Many people endured the rain and stayed for the fabulous music. Thank you to all that attended. Cisco Kid did an amazing job!

And congratulations to ZACK, he won the guitar at the Guitar raffle!
July Food Truck Event – The weather was a little iffy again! It was cloudy and we got sprinkled on and the thunder was close by, so we had to take the bounce house down a little early. But we still had a great turnout for July’s food truck night. The kids had a blast on the bounce house, playing yard games, and playing hide and seek games on the playground. The adults got to relax and enjoy each others company at the tables and chairs in the grass while watching the kids play.

Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the great food from WeChef, Comforts of Home, and HipPop! Hope to see you in August 25th! We will have a magician at the next one!

District Landscaping Information

The landscaping at each of our 6 monuments has been completed! Thank you to our landscape architect, Architerra Group, and our landscaper, Cox Landscaping, for enhancing these spaces! The perennials will grow bigger year over year and will save our neighborhood money on planting annual flowers. Next up, our landscape committee is looking at enhancing our district owned property along Powhatan road. You may begin to see Cox working in these areas in August and into the fall months.

Lokal Home Landscaping

It has also come to the board’s attention that there have been concerns about the landscaping around Lokal Homes (the townhomes in Wheatlands). Lokal homes is responsible for maintaining the landscaping and tree lawn around their property. We recommend concerned townhome owners reach out to your property management company at Lokal homes directly regarding any landscaping concerns.
Park Phase II Update

Our architect met with the City of Aurora planning department on July 8th, the meeting went well and we are moving on to the next step with the City. The project is now in the public works planning review process and neighbors close to the park will receive a letter from the City of Aurora notifying them of the project. We will continue to share the project progress with the community and hope we will be able to go out to bid soon.  More to come and we can’t wait to begin Phase 2!

Recycling Options
We received feedback during our board meeting that a neighbor would like to have recycling weekly instead of bi-weekly. After the meeting, we checked with Waste Management and unfortunately they do not offer weekly recycling services. Trying to provide a solution, we found out that the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site (DADS) Landfill (on Gunclub Rd) accepts single stream recycling at no charge.
Visit : https://www.wmsolutions.com/locations/details/id/53 to get the address and find out more information on dropping off your recycling for free. Another solution is to add an additional recycling cart from WM at $5.15 each per month, billed directly to the residents on a quarterly basis and can be started and stopped at any time.

Important Neighborhood Watch Info

The Wheatlands community participates in the Neighborhood Watch program, however we no longer have an Area Coordinator. We did at one time, but unfortunately the contact has relocated out of Colorado.
So, we are in need a of Neighborhood Watch Area Coordinator. Please see the description and information below…

Description for Area Coordinator – Neighborhood Watch (Volunteer)
Neighborhood Watch is a crime-based prevention program that stresses education and situational awareness. Everyone who lives in a participating community is part of Neighborhood Watch, homeowners and renters. A community’s success with this program is only as good as the participation. This is a volunteer program who relies on volunteers in the community.

Some of the Area Coordinators responsibilities are but not limited to:
1. Meeting attendance (4 meetings per year)
2. Communicating meeting and event information with Next Door, community Facebook Pages, and HOA/Metro District where applicable
3. Assisting community on how to report crime, sharing crime tips

Please remember this is a volunteer program, not a guarantee that crime will not occur. We are not a citizen vigilante group.
Neighborhood Watch helps reduce the risk of being a victim through education and prepares citizens to respond accordingly to suspicious activity.
If you are interested in becoming an Area Coordinator in your community or have additional questions please contact me at [email protected].
