Our partners at AMI have organized a community Toy Drive for our neighborhood.
At AMI, we believe that living begins with giving and we know that this Holiday Season will be hard for many of us, due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and the hardships caused by the restrictions in place. So, we will be working with 2 local Community Support Centers to join them in their efforts to provide Toys for those in need within our communities and surrounding neighborhoods and bring some much-needed Joy this Holiday Season.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Pumpkin Fall Event! Despite the snow and frigid temperatures we had a great turnout. We are happy everyone was able to come out and enjoy the event! Thank you to our sponsor Jen Cronk with 1320 homes for having Funky Brewster Coffee Catering out there to serve the delicious warm drinks! Thank you to comforts of home for still coming out in the weather to serve some yummy breakfast. Lastly thank you to the Wheatlands Board for their continued support in helping plan and making these community events happen.

Community Survey – Thank you to everyone who took the time last month to give us feedback on our annual community survey. We look forward to gathering the results and sharing them in our year end communication. It takes a village and without your feedback we couldn’t improve. We appreciate your helping making Wheatlands a wonderful place to live.
Clubhouse information – We continue to keep our clubhouse open for our residents knowing it is important to have a space for our residents to use when several other facilities are closed. Tri-County health has recently changed their guidelines on group gatherings which our clubhouse will adhere to as well. For more information or questions you can call the YMCA office at

District Landscape Information – We have increased our contract with Cox Landscaping to include additional trash can emptying throughout the Wheatlands District including the clubhouse, walking paths and the community park. They will be emptying the bins twice a week through the winter months and it will increase to three times a week in the spring/summer/fall. If you have a rental or a gathering at the parks we ask that large items be taken and thrown away instead of just setting by the trash cans. We also ask if you have large amounts of trash you bring your own trash bags and remove the trash. Thank you for your cooperation on this.
Park Information – The Wheatlands Metro District is pleased to announce we are beginning Phase 2 of the Wheatlands Park Project. The design is shown below and will include: a full size basketball court, multi use sport court (for pickleball or half basketball), yard games, ping pong tables, new perennial beds, picnic tables and hammock area. We have submitted the design to the City of Aurora for approval and construction will begin next year. We look forward to completing the park and having additional outdoor space for our community to enjoy.

Wheatlands Recreation Center
The Wheatlands YMCA is coming to Wheatlands in May 2020.
The YMCA is excited to join your community as a place of strength, connection and health.
Through your metro district dues, Wheatlands’ residents will receive a free family membership to the new YMCA.
Membership includes fitness facility, fitness classes, swimming and access to Ys nationwide. Additional fees will be required for programs such as swim lessons, swim team, youth sports, summer day camp, specialty fitness classes and personal training — all at the member rate.
To access the new Y, residents will be required to register with the YMCA and complete any necessary waivers.
We are thrilled to bring our new YMCA to the Wheatlands community.

Attendees should maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from others as much as possible.

Fall Pumpkin Patch – It’s time to celebrate Fall and bring your kids up to the park to pick out a free pumpkin! We will be having a fall pumpkin patch at the Wheatlands Community Park on Sunday, October 25th from 10am-12pm. This event is hosted by the Wheatlands Metropolitan District and the YMCA. Thank you to our sponsor, Jennifer Cronk with 1320 Homes, who will be providing a free Hot Chocolate Bar! We will also have a breakfast food truck onsite (Comforts of Home) serving breakfast burritos and pastries so don’t forget your credit card. We hope you can join us for this fun fall event!
Community Survey – It is that time of the year that the Board sends out the fall survey. We ask that residents take the time to take the survey to help the board see where the community has concerns. This helps the board make decisions throughout the year. To take the survey please click here.
Clubhouse Information: New roller shades were recently installed in the clubhouse to finish the clubhouse remodel project. The board also ordered a fog cleaning machine to reduce the rental cleaning fee for our clubhouse. This cut our fee in half and It is now a $75 cleaning fee instead of $150. Park Information – We have noticed the park is getting a lot of use and we are so glad everyone can enjoy it! The replacement bumble bee has been installed and the wall was fixed this past month. We appreciate your help keeping the trash in the trash containers and picking up after your pets. We do have security cameras at the park and this has helped with decreasing vandalism. The Wheatlands board is looking at continuing with Phase 2 for the park and discussions are being had with our architect on the design and the timing for construction.
District Landscape Information – Our district landscaping crew, is working hard to remove and replace the dead trees in the district. This winter was really hard on our trees however the board recognizes the importance of replacing them and keeping the aesthetics of our neighborhood in pristine condition. In addition, the board is partnering with a landscape architect to enhance the plants and look of our main entrance at Wheatlands Pkwy and Smoky Hill. Now that the City of Aurora has completed placing the new street lights, we see an opportunity to have additional plants and a better design around our monuments on these two corners.
Pool Wrap Up – The pool closed for the season this past Sunday. Thank you all for your patience and understanding this summer as we navigated through a strange time and always changing guidelines due to COVID. We are happy we were able to open the pool for the community to enjoy.
It’s that time of year again – Election Season. With Election Day Coming November 3rd, 2020 we wanted to give you the opportunity to review your community’s rules regarding political signs. Colorado State law protects a homeowner’s right to place political signs on their property, while still permitting the community association to adopt some limitations regarding the timeframe, size, number and placement of the political signs.
Per the Wheatlands Guidelines section 3.73 Signs
“One (1) political sign per household may be placed in the front yard of the lot during elections. All political signs must be removed within forty-eight (48) hours of said election. No signs may be placed on District property without the written consent of the District. A temporary trade sign pertaining to, but not limited to, contractors, landscapers, painters, and roofers, may only be displayed while work is in progress, or not to exceed two (2) months, whichever is less. This signage must meet the above specifications. In an effort to maintain neighborhood aesthetics, it is requested that political signs not be displayed more than three (3) weeks prior to election. Please also refer to the City of Aurora’s Sign Code for any signs not covered as part of this section.”
How to respond to District rule violation notices
Address it: Ignoring a violation notice won’t make it go away and can make the situation much worse, if not responded to. Once you’ve received a violation notice, take steps to understand and correct the violation, and either pay or appeal the fine if issued.
Don’t take it personally: Remember that the rules were created to keep the community safe and comfortable for residents, including you. You agreed to abide by the rules when you bought your home.
Communicate: While friendly phone or email communication can address minor infractions or warnings, written communication and documentation helps create clarity for everyone involved. When you’ve been accused of a rule’s violation, it’s best to address it in writing. If there are extenuating circumstances—like a family emergency that causes you to fall behind on lawn care—communicate that to your Covenant enforcement manager at firstname.lastname@example.org . You don’t know if an exception might be made until you ask.
Get involved: There is usually a correlation between the level of homeowner involvement and the success of a community. So, if you want to improve your community, volunteer for a board or committee position or attend meetings to see how you can contribute.

Come and dump your unwanted items in the community dumpster provided by the Wheatlands Metropolitan District and Waste Management.
Please see below for guidelines and items that are not allowed. We will have staff all day monitoring the items so if you show up with an item on the not allowed list you will be turned away. Thank you for your cooperation on this!
After several residents have reported that their trash has not been picked up recently. We looked into the issue and Waste Management noted they recently completed an audit of our neighborhood trash collection service and noted that they had been picking up trash that was outside of their contract. The board has not changed our contract with them for several years and we wanted to pass on the below message from Waste Management:
“What tends to happen is people put out extra trash bags or extra trash carts/bins, in addition to contracted amounts and the driver, thinking he is helping or doing someone a favor, picks up the excess trash. Then something happens, like a new driver is assigned, or someone from Operations does a ride along or inspection and explains the correct service level. Then of course residents feel like we have reduced the service or something along those lines.”
Per the existing agreement, the scope of service included is as follows:
* Scope of Service; (1) 96 Gallon Trash & (1) 96 Gallon Recycle cart included per household. All items inside carts.
* Additional Carts Available; $ 5.15 each per month, billed direct to the resident on quarterly basis and can be started and stopped at any time.
We know our neighborhood was used to the level of service we were getting and the Wheatlands Metro District Board did inquire if we could increase our contract and add 5 additional bags to our service. Waste Management said they haven’t allowed that for 5-6 years now, everything must be placed inside a waste management cart, it must be a WM cart because they work with their lift arms on trucks. Lawn clippings, yard waste, and all trash need to be in a cart.
We appreciate your understanding, with Covid, Waste Management has been tightened up, and levels adhered too, as they don’t want drivers out of their trucks or dealing with loose trash anymore then they need to be.
