Community Event Recap
Aurora YMCA Grand Opening Event

What an exciting grand opening event! Thank you to all that attended.
We had a wonderful turn out and a great time at the Grand Opening event.
Here are some pictures that captures the event if you weren’t able to attend.
Our first food truck night was a success…

We had beautiful weather, lots of sunshine, a ton of neighbors and friends came out to enjoy the good food, friends, music, bounce house and yard games.
And no masks because we were outside. It finally felt like we were starting to get back to “normal.” Hope to see you at the next one!

2021 Pool Season Information

We can’t wait for you to enjoy the pool this summer! With Tri-County Health in level Clear, we will not have a reservation system and plan on operating the pool without restrictions. We will keep you informed if anything changes with Tri-County during the summer but we are hopeful we can operate at full capacity all summer! We will have pool furniture back at the pool this year as well.

Entering the Pool
You will need to bring your activated key-fob to open the gate and have access to the pool.  Visit our webpage here to register your key-fob or get details on a getting a new fob.  You do not need to sign any additional waivers as our COVID waiver was included in your registration this year. Your activated key-fob will be your ticket in!  We ask residents to continue to enter the pool on the west side by the playground so the lifeguards can easily get a quick count of capacity at the pool.

Your Team
  •  Please join us in welcoming Taylor Lee who is our Aquatic Coordinator from the YMCA who will help us maintain and manage the pool this summer. Thank you Taylor! If you have any questions or comments regarding the lifeguard staff or the pool management please reach out to Taylor at [email protected]
  • The lifeguards are here for you! They want to ensure we have a safe and fun swim environment.

Pool Hours
May 29th – August 8: 10AM – 8PM Every Day: The pool opens for the season Memorial Day weekend and is open every day from 10AM-8PM for residents to enjoy except for 3 Saturday mornings in which the Wheatlands Sharks swim team will be having their home meets. The meets are June 5th, June 12th and June 26th and run from 10-2pm.

Extended Pool Hours First 3 Saturdays in July – 8pm-Dusk: The board recognizes how important the pool is to all our residents. With this in mind, we will be offering extended family swim nights the first three Saturdays in July to offset some of the swim team time. We choose these nights in July since the weather will be warmer and daylight will be longer. The pool can stay open until dusk which is around 9:30ish, this is so the lifeguards can still see to the bottom of the pool. Save the dates and mark your calendars for July 3rd, 10th and 17th the pool will stay open until dusk.

August 9th to September 5th: The pool transitions to school hours as follows:
Monday – Friday Swim at Your Own Risk* from Noon until 4pm
Monday – Friday Lifeguards on Duty from 4-8pm
Saturdays & Sundays Lifeguards on Duty 10am-8pm
*During swim at your own risk, we will have a YMCA staff member at the gate to ensure our pool stays within Tri-County Health capacity limit but we will not have any lifeguards in the stands during this time. All children under the age of 18, need to be accompanied by their parents or guardians to participate in the Swim at Your Own Risk hours.

Safety Breaks
For the safety of our swimmers, we have regular safety breaks scheduled at the pool. The breaks occur 15 minutes before the hour beginning at 11:45. Adults are allowed to swim in the lap pool during these safety breaks. Children must remain out of the pool until the safety break is over.
Snack Shack
  • Located at the lifeguard hut, the snack shack will be available to purchase ice cream treats, snacks and drinks.
  • We will be doing cash for the snack shack again this year, so bring your dollar bills for those special treats.
  • Feel free to bring in your own food and drink as well and please dispose of your trash in the provided trash cans.

Guest Policy
We are allowing guests back at the pool this year, with the same policy we have had previously which is 5 guests per household.

Weather Policy
The feels like temperature outside must be 60 degrees or higher for our pool to open. If lightning or inclement weather is spotted the pool will close for safety and reopen when the weather has passed. The pool and pool deck will be cleared when either of the following is occurring:
  1. Cloud to ground lightning is observed and less than 30 seconds pass from seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder from the flash.
  2. In cloud lightning is occurring directly overhead.

Swim Test
In order for children to swim in the lap pool without an adult they are required to pass a swim safety test. The test consists of 2 parts:
  1. Tread water for one minute
  2. Swim the length of the pool
Once the child passes the swim test their name will be added to a list at the lifeguard stand and they will be given a wrist band to swim in the pool. They only need to pass the test once per summer; the next time you go to the pool just check in at the lifeguard stand to get your wristband.

Snack Shack
  • Located at the lifeguard hut, the snack shack will be available to purchase ice cream treats, snacks and drinks.
  • Snacks are $1 a piece and include a variety of sweet and salty treats. Please bring the exact dollar amount to put in the lock box as change can not be given.
  • We did look into accepting credit cards this year however with the high transaction fees and processing fees, we have decided not to pursue this option at this time.
  • Feel free to bring in your own food and drink as well and please dispose of your trash in the provided trash cans.

We hope you enjoy swimming this summer!

District Landscaping Information
The board has chosen a landscaper to complete the work around our entrances. We anticipate the plantings going in over the next few months. The landscapers will be completing the plantings at all our monument signs. These perennial plantings will save our district money on annual planting. We look forward to enjoying the new colors and seeing the design completed.

In addition, to the new landscaping design, the board has approved for the trees to be sprayed this spring to keep them healthy and bug free.

Park Trash Removal
As we approach warmer weather, the trash in the trash cans at the park will be removed twice a week by Cox Landscaping. They will be out on Fridays and Mondays to remove the trash from trash receptacles. We are encouraging pavilion rentals to bring their own trash bags as well. We want to keep it clean for everyone and appreciate your help carrying out large picnic/trash items if you have them at the park.
Park Phase II Update
The City of Aurora is running behind on their review process. With COVID-19 they have furloughed employees and are running short staffed. Once the City has approved our phase two design, we will be able to go out to bid and start our construction. With the delay in the approval process, we anticipate the park construction not beginning until Fall. We hope to start sooner but want to be realistic with the timeframe.  We will keep the community informed as the project progresses.

COVENANT ENFORCEMENT
Fence Staining and Painting
Spring is here and it is time to refresh your fences. The inspector will be going through the District over the next month and sending notices for fences that need to be stained or painted. The compliance date will be set for May 31st, 2021 to allow time for warmer weather and planning. Non- perimeter fences need to be stained with one of the approved stain colors in the guidelines. Perimeter split rail fences need to be painted the Sherwin Williams Nightingale color listed in the guidelines. For more details and information on determining if you fence is a perimeter or non- perimeter fence, please visit the Wheatlands website with the below HERE

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Sharon at [email protected]

Important Neighborhood Watch Info

The Wheatlands community participates in the Neighborhood Watch program, however we no longer have an Area Coordinator. We did at one time, but unfortunately the contact has relocated out of Colorado.
So, we are in need a of Neighborhood Watch Area Coordinator. Please see the description and information below…

Description for Area Coordinator – Neighborhood Watch (Volunteer)
Neighborhood Watch is a crime-based prevention program that stresses education and situational awareness. Everyone who lives in a participating community is part of Neighborhood Watch, homeowners and renters. A community’s success with this program is only as good as the participation. This is a volunteer program who relies on volunteers in the community.

Some of the Area Coordinators responsibilities are but not limited to:
1. Meeting attendance (4 meetings per year)
2. Communicating meeting and event information with Next Door, community Facebook Pages, and HOA/Metro District where applicable
3. Assisting community on how to report crime, sharing crime tips

Please remember this is a volunteer program, not a guarantee that crime will not occur. We are not a citizen vigilante group.
Neighborhood Watch helps reduce the risk of being a victim through education and prepares citizens to respond accordingly to suspicious activity.
If you are interested in becoming an Area Coordinator in your community or have additional questions please contact me at [email protected].

Jennifer Dubrow
Neighborhood Watch

We are seeing an increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts and motor vehicle trespasses in our community.  Please be sure to report all suspicious activity to the Aurora Police Department (303-627-3100/911). “If you see something, say something.”

Tips to Help Prevent Motor Vehicle Theft and Motor Vehicle Trespasses:

1.      NEVER leave your vehicle running unattended in your driveway, garage, or on the street – if you use a remote start you may do so however be sure doors are locked and key/key fobs are in a safe place away from the vehicle.

2.      ALWAYS keep your vehicle doors locked, when driving and parked.

3.      Park in your garage. If you must park outside, park in a well-lit location.

4.      Do not keep a spare set of keys in the vehicle.

5.      Do not store firearms or other weapons in the vehicle.

6.      Do not “advertise” what’s in your vehicle. Remove all items each time you depart the vehicle and do not leave anything visible.

7.      Avoid leaving documents with your address in the glove box.

8.      Purchase comprehensive insurance which covers stolen vehicles.

9.      Use a theft deterrent system such as “The Club” or an alarm system.

For more information on motor vehicle theft prevention please visit: www.lockdownyourcar.org.
