Community Event Recap

Thank you to all those that attended the 4th of July celebration! The party got cut a little short with thunderstorms but we sure had a lot of fun while it lasted! Food trucks, face painters, obstacle course, pool games, bounce house, barrel train and beverages for all. And a special thank you to 1320 Homes Real Estate for providing their fabulous yellow firetruck for the bike parade!

Unfortunately, the rains came in and poured on the food truck night, but then the skies cleared, and the sun came out. The weather kept a lot of people from attending, but those that attended had a great time and enjoyed the wonderful food truck food and amazing face-painter!.

The June event was cancelled due to the huge thunderstorm and tornado warning that came through. But we rescheduled for Thursday, July 27th and had a great time! The rains stayed away and the community was able to rock out to Amanda Vs Material Girl/Princess and the Evolution Band while enjoying some amazing, tasty treats from the food trucks. Thank you to all that came out out to enjoy this fun event.

2023 Pool Season

You can now activate your pool fobs for the outdoor pool on our website by clicking here.  In order to have your key fobs activated, all current Wheatland’s residents will need to fill out a new Disclaimer of Liability/User Release forms for the 2023 pool season. This is a yearly waiver and must be completed for you to have access to the pool.  Once you fill out the form, you will receive a confirmation email and your fob will be activated. Please note if you are behind with your monthly metro district payments or have fines with the district your pool fob will not be activated until you have corrected your account.

Landscape Maintenance:

Weather has played a major role in operations this year. It has been hard to keep a regular mowing schedule with all the rain however the rain has been very good for the community landscape. Our arborist has supplied a list of work for Cox to complete with the trees. They will also be doing traffic pruning which essentially makes sure branches are not hanging low on sidewalks or into the street.  The park bathroom has received so much vandalism we have shut down the bathroom until we can find a solution. The retention ponds are being maintained, however with the rain more standing water has been in there then we want. Cox has been treating the ponds with mosquito larvicide trying to minimize the mosquitos with the standing water. Warranty replacements on the monuments have taken place, daisies are blooming and colors are starting to show all around the neighborhood.

Dogs Must Be on a Leash:

Per the City of Aurora – If a dog leaves its owner’s property it is required to be on a leash. The leash cannot exceed more than 10 feet in length and must be held by a person that is physically able to control the dog. To view all the leash laws click here. The board was notified in July of dogs at the Wheatlands Park that were not on a leash attacking another dog that was on a leash. Please respect the law and if you encounter a problem with an off leash dog in the neighborhood please contact the City of Aurora Police Department.

Parties at the Pool:

The Y is seeing an increase in unauthorized parties at the Wheatlands Pool. Our guest policy allows each household to invite 5 additional guests. If you plan on inviting more guests, you need to complete an additional waiver called the Pool Rental agreement which is located at the bottom of our pool page on the website hereYou must pay for the additional lifeguard staff which is $25 an hour for a minimum of 2 hours and notify them of the party 14 days in advance. We all want to enjoy the pool so please respect the policy and plan ahead for your next gathering at the pool.

Urban Soccer Field:

During July, we are seeing some major progress on this project. The Pickle Ball court has been installed and we are hoping to have the soccer field completed soon, we are just waiting on the turf. As soon as we get the certificate of occupancy from the City of Aurora, the Y will open the courts for use, add the court schedule to their app and create a reservation system.  You will also be able to check out equipment at the front desk. In the meantime, we hope you can stop by and check out the progress.

COVENANT ENFORCEMENT

Here at Wheatlands, we know that with the high temperatures we are having it can be very difficult to keep our lawns looking nice and maintained.  We have spoken to a landscaper and compiled some helpful tips below:

  1. Water in cooler parts of the day, early morning or late at night.
  2. Don’t water to the point of runoff, it is better to cycle areas for small amounts of time, for better absorption.
  3. One of the best things you could do to help keep your lawn green in hot dry weather, is to get a product called Revive (which can be found at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, and other gardening stores), it attaches to your hose, and you spray it over the whole lawn. It helps break up the soil and provide nutrients, so the water has better absorption. You can do it up to once a week to start and then just monthly.

4.      If you don’t like using chemical treatments for weeds, try using this natural recipe for weed killer: https://nativeplantherald.prairienursery.com/2019/01/how-to-make-a-homemade-weed-killer/

5.      If it is over 85 degrees do not spray your weeds with either chemical or natural solutions as the weed’s plant cells close and do not absorb anything. Spraying early in the morning to avoid the heat is the best time.

Are you planning on making some home improvements or updates to your landscaping? Or are you someone who needs to repaint or replace your roof?

As some of us have experienced, if we wait too long it can be hard to find a painter,
