Thanksgiving Community event!

Is that time of the year again! For the past 8 years, my family started celebrating Thanksgiving by giving back to the community, especially to those who need it the most.

Since we moved to Colorado back in 2017, we continued that tradition and have successfully helped more than 5000 people in the Denver metro area during the holiday season!

This would have never happen without your help!

This year we are doing things a bit different. Throughout the years, we’ve witnessed an increased of duplicated efforts. Therefore, in order to make this effort, among all others successful, I’m handing out goodie bags with winter essentials and perishable items! I’m asking for donations

Each bag will be filled with:

*Toothpaste

*Toothbrushes

*Hand warmers

*Snacks (crackers, cereal bars, etc)

*Instant coffee packets/tea

*Gatorade powder packets

*Socks

*Beanies

*Gloves

*Scarves

If you would like to donate additional items, such as blankets, please contact me!

We will start setting up around 9am and we are normally done with everything around 11:30.

Once again, thank you so much in advance to all new volunteers and reoccurring ones!

Your help is so appreciated

Sincerely,

Hÿ Ł Ęt (a Wheatland’s Resident)

Community Event Recap

Thank you to everyone that came out to enjoy the Wheatlands Halloween Pumpkin Patch. We truly enjoyed seeing everyone in their costumes, enjoying the amazing face painters, pumpkin patch, bounce house, Halloween craft and take-home Halloween Scavenger Hunt, as well as the Cruz and Eats breakfast food truck and hot beverages. A very special thank you to 1320 Homes Real Estate for sponsoring the hot beverage tent! That is always such a special treat for the community. Thank you for all that you do! Below are some pictures of all the fun that was had.

Due to the snowy weather this past weekend, we will delay announcing the winners for a few more days, so the judges have more time to go see the displays not covered in snow.

Hope to announce the winners by November 2nd at the latest.

Landscape Maintenance

As we begin budgeting for next year, the board discussed looking at xeriscaping the medians in the district. We are looking at making a master plan to utilize the City of Aurora rebate program by completing a little bit of the project each year.

Waste Management

The board got several quotes for trash service as our contract with Waste Management is about to expire. After reviewing the additional contractors quotes, waste management came in the least expensive and the board opted to keep our existing service by signing a new contract with them. This will allow the community to keep our relationship with our current vendor and not have the hassle of changing trash companies.

Pool Maintenance

The board budgeted and approved re-plastering the zero-entry outdoor pool next year. This pool needs to be replastered as it hasn’t been completed in awhile. This will help prevent future cracking and issues with ground water coming into the pool. We are continuing to partner with the pool doctor and review their additional recommendations so the pool can be fixed during the off season and ready to open on time next year.

Urban Soccer Fields

We are happy that the soccer field is open and residents can enjoy it! We saw the end of the Fall soccer program using them and got positive feedback. Parents enjoyed the stands with shade to watch the games. It also allowed the younger players to touch the ball more and enjoy the softer turf. We have also received positive feedback on the pickle ball courts and are glad the community is enjoying these new amenities. We are pleased to announce that residents can utilize the field and court as well, just check with the front desk at the Y and reserve your time slot.

Park Vandalism

We noticed over fall break that our park had additional vandalism. Someone pulled up signs at the park and unscrewed them from their posts. We have reported this to the Aurora Police Department and they are aware of the previous vandalism as well. The board is looking into adding additional cameras and finding a way to monitor the park better so we can stop the vandalism. If you see something, please notify the Aurora Police if vandalism is currently in progress or email the board if you see it afterwards ([email protected]). The quicker we report it the better a chance we have of catching the individuals that are vandalizing our park.

Covenant Document Review:

We annually review our covenant documents and have started the process of reviewing them for any changes that need to be made for 2024. Changes that we are including reflect the changes the City of Aurora has made regarding landscaping this year. It also is a great time to enhance our covenant documents to ensure they are easy to understand and helpful to our residents. Once we have finished the revisions, we will approve the updated guidelines and then they will be posted on our website.

10 Tips to Prepare Your Property for Winter

Taking care of a few simple things around your home and yard in the fall can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in preventable repairs.

1.     Clean up leaves. Clean up leaves in the yard and finish any needed landscape maintenance.

2.     Clean out gutters. Keep gutters clear of leaves, twigs and debris. The debris buildup can keep the melting snow and ice from flowing freely, which can cause gutters to freeze.

3.     Turn off outside water faucets and drain irrigation systems. Properly drain and blow out irrigation systems to avoid damage from freezing and thawing—drain and coil hoses for winter storage. Remove hose nozzles, sprayers, and wands. Store these items in a non-freezing spot, like a garage or basement. Drain outside faucets, turning off water from inside your home. Consider covering exterior faucets with an insulating cover, especially if you don’t have a turn-off valve inside.

4.     Cover outdoor furniture. Clean and cover outdoor furniture, take down umbrellas, and ensure it’s all snug and secure for winter.

5.     Check outdoor lighting. Inspect outdoor lighting, replacing bulbs as needed.

6.     Power wash outside surfaces. Take time to scrub down patios, decks, and walkways to remove accumulated dirt from summer.

7.     Wash windows. Wash both inside and outside surfaces and inspect seals. Caulk if necessary. Remove screens and stow them for winter.

8.     Have the heating system inspected. It is also important to clean your chimney and fireplace

9.     Plan snow removal. Plan the removal of snow on your driveway and sidewalks. Make sure your shovels are in good condition. Remember to remove the snow from your sidewalks within 24 hours from the storm’s end.

10. Buy ice melt. Pick up a few bags of ice melt for decks, stairs, and walkways. For a pet-friendly ice melt, you can use magnesium chloride. Magnesium calcium chloride blends are said to be pet-friendly, but they aren’t always. Using salt blends on concrete is also not recommended, especially not new concrete. Using sand for traction is the safest choice on concrete.

Holiday Lighting and Decorations

While it may be hard to believe, the holiday season is, in fact, fast approaching. Cue the holiday parties, lights, and decorations.

Here is an opportunity to review your District’s rules.

Per the Wheatlands Residential Improvement Guidelines section 3.44 Lights and Lighting

“Holiday lighting and decorations do not require approval. It is required that they not be installed more than forty-five (45) days prior to the holiday. They shall be removed within thirty (30) days following the holiday.”

If you have any questions or concerns regarding holiday lighting and decorations, please email [email protected]
