Covenant and Community Reminders

Did you know April is National Lawn Care Month?

Springtime is a critical time of year for developing a healthy, drought-tolerate lawn. Here are a few landscaping tips for April:

1. Mulch flower beds and landscapes.

2. De-thatch and aerate lawn.

3. Remove leaves or any trash from your yard.

4. Each time you water your lawn apply enough water to enter the root zone of your grass. Watering needs can vary by type of grass, amount of sun and type of soil. Wait until the last freeze to turn on your sprinkles and water with a garden hose during dry conditions in April.

5. Begin mid month to prune bushes and forsythias.

6. You can plant cool weather annuals like zinnias and pansies but hold off on planting most annuals until after the last freeze. Remove dead or damaged rose canes.

7. Protect spring colors – When the bulbs planted last fall emerge as spring flowers they are generally up to the challenge of the unpredictable weather. However if night time temperatures fall below 28 degrees, cover early bloomers to protect the flowers over night.

Spring Painting and Staining

Spring is officially here and it is time to apply additional stain or paint to keep your home, deck and fence looking great. Regular physical and aesthetic maintenance of fencing is required to stay in compliance with the Metro District standards.

All fences must be stained using one of the approved stain colors shown on Schedule 2 of the Covenant Document and sealed with a clear waterproof sealant.

Decks may be finished with a clear semi-transparent sealer, stained to match a cedar tone, an oil based wood finish or a similar product that matches. The deck may also be painted to match the body or trim color of the home.

Please visit https://www.wheatlandsmetro.org/covenents/ for the full list of staining requirements. Our covenant specialists, AMI, are also available to assist you if you have any questions feel free to reach out to them at 303-351-5411 or [email protected].

Snow Storm

Good Afternoon,
Wednesday’s winter storm turned out to be one of the most extreme that Aurora has experienced in more than a decade. With the storm gone and roads still a mess, we wanted to send some information in regards to the snow removal and who is responsible for what. The District is in charge of removing snow from sidewalks on district property. We have been diligently working to clear all district sidewalks.
The roads are the responsibility of the City of Aurora. For more detailed information please visit this LINK. The link below will also take you to a map that shows our area and what roads are to be plowed and their priority level. Click Here for map.

Covenant and Community Reminders

Spring is approaching make sure you are prepping your yards.

March lawn tips:

Trees and Shrubs

 – During heavy snowstorms remove snow buildup from limbs.

 – If conditions have been dry, water lawn and ground cover areas, evergreens, and newly planted deciduous trees and shrubs once per month. Water only if the soil is dry and only when warm weather is expected for several days. Most established deciduous trees do not need extra water except in very exposed sites.

–  In late March or early April, remove wrap from trees. Be sure to remove any tape that was securing the wrap to the trees to avoid damaging the trunk as the trees grow.

– Prune summer-blooming shrubs (those that bloom on the current season’s growth) in late March before new growth begins. (examples: Blue Mist Spirea, summer-blooming Spireas, Butterfly Bush)

– Cut back perennials and grasses that were not cut back in the fall.

–  Add mulch to perennials beds.

      • Trash cans are being left out in view. To avoid a notice or fine please bring in your trash can within 24 hours after trash pick up
    • Winter Shoveling- Make sure driveways and sidewalks are clear.
